The military attempted to prevent Ventura and his crew from filming a stand-up at JFK’s Eternal Flame.
In an exclusive interview on the Alex Jones Show today, Jesse Ventura will talk about the U.S. military’s attempt to undermine his popular TruTV show, “Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura.”
Jesse was prevented from filming a stand-up in front of the Eternal Flame at Arlington National Cemetery for an episode on government involvement in the JFK assassination. Despite the military ban, Ventura managed to film the segment. “I did it anyway,” he told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
“They felt I offended them with my last series, because I look into government things, Conspiracy Theory, my TV show,” Ventura told Ann Sharpsteen of Scripps News. Sharpsteen posted a video of her interview with Ventura on YouTube earlier in the week (see video below).
Ventura told Sharpsteen he went through “proper channels” in order to film at the Eternal Flame. He was subsequently told by the military that he would not be allowed to film “because we don’t like your television show,” accord to Ventura.
The U.S. Army’s Public Affairs Office in Los Angeles, which acts as a liaison to the entertainment industry, told Kevin Diaz of the Minneapolis Star Tribune that JFK’s final resting place is “hallowed ground” and off limits to the media. “We don’t allow stand-ups next to the eternal flame for anyone,” explained Ken Hawes, director of the U.S. Army’s Public Affairs Office.
JFK’s Eternal Flame has appeared in countless television shows and movies. As part of the National Park Service, Arlington National Cemetery and JFK’s Eternal Flame are open to the public.
Hawes said that the government does not think it proper to cooperate with a show alleging that JFK’s death was an inside government job. He denied Ventura’s assertion that they turned the ex-governor down simply because they don’t like his show, according to Diaz.
“The bottom line is we said we didn’t want to be part of his television program,” Hawes told the newspaper. “We support all kinds of programs, but that one was just a little out of bounds.” In other words, the military will now decided who will be allowed to film at the Eternal Flame and permission will be predicated on what is politically acceptable to the government.
Jesse was in D.C. earlier in the week complaining about the incident of military-imposed censorship. The former Minnesota governor has complained about the incident to “every congressman I run into.”
Jesse will also talk with Alex about efforts by the Department of Homeland Security to prevent his crew from filming at other sites.

“Top Secret America”: The Rest Of The Story

The mercenary contractor explosion is growing into a force that will eventually be used to threaten individual liberties at home.
The Monday, July 19, 2010, edition of The Washington Post featured an investigative report entitled “Top Secret America,” with the subtitle, “A hidden world, growing beyond control.” The report begins, “The top-secret world the government created in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, has become so large, so unwieldy and so secretive that no one knows how much money it costs, how many people it employs, how many programs exist within it or exactly how many agencies do the same work.
“These are some of the findings of a two-year investigation by The Washington Post that discovered what amounts to an alternative geography of the United States, a Top Secret America hidden from public view and lacking in thorough oversight. After nine years of unprecedented spending and growth, the result is that the system put in place to keep the United States safe is so massive that its effectiveness is impossible to determine.
“The investigation’s other findings include:
*Some 1,271 government organizations and 1,931 private companies work on programs related to counterterrorism, homeland security and intelligence in about 10,000 locations across the United States.
*An estimated 854,000 people, nearly 1.5 times as many people as live in Washington, D.C., hold top-secret security clearances.
*In Washington and the surrounding area, 33 building complexes for top-secret intelligence work are under construction or have been built since September 2001. Together they occupy the equivalent of almost three Pentagons or 22 U.S. Capitol buildings–about 17 million square feet of space.
*Many security and intelligence agencies do the same work, creating redundancy and waste. For example, 51 federal organizations and military commands, operating in 15 U.S. cities, track the flow of money to and from terrorist networks.
*Analysts who make sense of documents and conversations obtained by foreign and domestic spying share their judgment by publishing 50,000 intelligence reports each year–a volume so large that many are routinely ignored.”
On the surface, the Post report appears to be a valiant effort by a major mainstream newspaper (second in influence to only the New York Times) to expose widespread government abuse and chicanery. But don’t get too excited yet.
In Joel Skousen’s World Affairs Brief (July 23, 2010), Skousen writes, “The [Post] series has just enough tantalizing information to sell a lot of papers, but almost nothing that exposes the illicit side of US operations–a large portion of which is involved in recruiting, training, and running covert agents–only a small portion of which are spying on real enemies. A lot of spying targets our allies and patriotic Americans who the government worries could someday provide a source of rebellion against the growing totalitarian state.”
Skousen further charges that there is a “dark side” to “each agency of [federal] law enforcement.” This “dark side” involves “a lot of compartmentalization, front activities, hidden budgets and false stories in order to keep honest government employees and agents from knowing what’s going on behind their backs.”
Skousen continues: “What few do get a glimpse into government’s dark side are warned off with threats, some subtle and some lethal–threats which send a chilling message to others to not ‘ask too many questions.’” Skousen then quotes the Post report as saying that since 9/11, the NSA (National Security Agency) has grown to where it now consumes “1.7 billion pieces of intercepted communications every 24 hours: emails, bulletin board postings, instant messages, IP addresses, phone numbers, telephone calls and cellular conversations.”
Concerning all those government organizations and private companies working on counterterrorism projects that the Post report refers to, Skousen writes, “Once again, the series tells us nothing about the substance of what they do, much of which is unsavory and illegal.”

GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — Illinois National Guard troops, in Poland for the annual Immediate Response 2007 exercise, have few problems communicating with their Polish counterparts.
According to Capt. Krispa Jekielek, a logistics officer with the Guard, many of the U.S. soldiers exercising in Poland this month are fluent in Polish.
“The unique thing about this is that Poland is our partnership country for the state of Illinois. We have a lot of soldiers in the National Guard who are of Polish descent,” she said, adding that many are dual citizens acting as translators during the exercise.
A company-sized task force based around 1st Battalion 178th Infantry Regiment, Illinois National Guard is part of a contingent of almost 300 U.S. personnel participating in the training.
“I’m trying to find out more about my ancestry while I’m here and learn as much Polish as possible,” said Jekielek, whose great-grandfather went to the United States from Poland long before she was born.
U.S. troops in the exercise will have a chance to check out Polish culture during a visit to the small town of Wedrzyn after the training wraps up on Sunday, she said.
Lt. Col. Sean Mulcahey, deputy exercise director, said other U.S. personnel in the exercise are from across Germany and Italy. They are training with about 1,700 Polish personnel, including 1,100 who are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan in the next few months.
The training of the Afghan- bound troops is called Bagram II and it is being run in conjunction with Immediate Response, he said.
The goals of Immediate Response include training U.S. and Polish forces to work as a coalition and to build on experience accumulated from working together in Iraq and Afghanistan, Mulcahey said.
In Bagram II, the Illinois National Guardsmen are training under the command of a Polish battalion, he said.
“The Polish battalion will have command and control of a different U.S. company when it arrives in Afghanistan,” he added.
Immediate Response is a priority exercise for the U.S. Army Europe as part of a program to engage with countries in the U.S. European Command’s area of responsibility, Mulcahey said.
“The Polish forces have worked very hard and are very interested in continuing the development of the relationship between our countries,” he said. “The exercise to this point has already improved our ability to work with them.”
